As I've been figuring out Overall Media LLC and where I want this business to go, I thought my experience working with animal shelters and local businesses would translate well into the vendor market area. And I just got my first taste of it.
I reached out to a local equestrian center asking if they needed a photographer. They wanted one for a monthly vendor market they host on their property. People can purchase tickets, do horse rides, browse the vendors, etc. on a sunny Saturday morning.
My job was to be the professional photographer for the photo station, including a live miniature horse and props. In the past, I have done event coverage: getting behind-the-scenes content for businesses to be able to use throughout the year. So being front facing as Overall Media was a bit nerve-wrecking.
The volunteer and horse I had were great, standing out in the heat and sun with me from 9-12. I only had two paying customers (one got photos for free because I felt bad saying no) the entire day. I had more people come up to pet Sonic (the horse), ask for pricing, and walk away. It basically went as I thought it would.
But I've learned a lot––I would lower the pricing, limit to one photo station, move the table around, take more control. I felt more like a tool for this farm than a vendor at this market, but now I know.
I think this one of those experiences small businesses have to have at the start of their journey to really learn and grow. I know what I'd add to contracts, how I want to price things, and how to run my side of business.
In the end, I got some very cute photos, and the Fort Worth area hopefully knows about Overall Media now.
